Mario:
Mario is an average player. He is an all-round player, which makes it easy for new players to use him as their character. His special item is the feather which provides a jump or he sometimes gets a star!

Luigi:
Luigi is an average player. He is an all-round player, which makes it easy for new players to use him as their character. His special item is the star which provides invincibility!

Princess:
Princess Toadstool "Peach" has great acceleration which means it's easier to turn corners. She tends to throw annoying mushrooms that shrink you when driven into. Grrr....

Yoshi:
Yoshi is cool, and always will be. "Yoshi"! He looks cool, feels cool. Has the same abilities as the Toadstool, but throws eggs at you. I wonder where he gets the eggs from. From his...

Bowser:
The king of the koopas has come to race with his enemies. How unordinary! However, this mean git is the fastest character, despite his slow speed. Anyhoo, he throws lava balls to burn you up. Naughty Bowser!

Donkey Kong Junior:
DK Junior is confusing, considering his dad "Donkey Kong" from the arcade game is now Cranky Kong would suggest that DK Jr. is the present Donkey Kong. Anyhoo, his abilities are similar to Bowser, but he tends to throw annoying bananas at you so you slip over them. How annoying!

Toad:
With that mushroom on his head he should be able to headbutt some opponents, but instead he uses mushrooms to shrink other opponents. Steering control is cool, however he hasn't got a good top speed. Sigh! Nintendo stated that Toad's kart is the best-all round to use.
