Mario Kart 64 » Characters

Below is a listing of the characters in the game in the weight/ class order...

Lightweight
Characters: Peach, Toad, Yoshi

The lightweights are the recommended characters to use. Princess Toadstool Peach the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom is a lightweight, as well as her servant Toad, and the cool green Yoshi!

The lightest out of these characters is Toad, so Toad can spin out of control quite often when he encounters head-to-head bumps. These characters have their best acceleration and speed in the game; they can also jump the highest in the game, which makes these the recommended drivers in the game. They're best for time trials, races and battle mode, because they have top speed and top acceleration. "Nuff" said!

DK

Wario

Bowser

Middleweight
Characters: Mario, Luigi

Mario is the president of the Mushroom Kingdom and the hero who continuosly saves the Princess. Mario's brother Luigi; the machine in green is middleweight like his brother, and plays identically to his brother.

On the road these plumber can get easily spun out by the fatties (heavyweights) and have almost as poor acceleration and speed as them. However, they tend to recover from dirt or mud better. The middleweights are not usually considered as the recommended drivers.

Luigi

Heavyweight
Characters: DK, Wario, Bowser

DK, Wario and Bowser are the characters with a little excess weight. Donkey Kong the famous ape known for kidnapping Pauline; Wario is the darker side of Mario and Bowser is Mario's all time nemesis.

These heavyweights sure pack a pounding if ran into. Even when you turn Bowser into a midget with a lightning bolt, his spikes will spin you out of control. These are great to use in Battle Mode, because when heavyweights boost into opponents, they'll spin and lose a balloon. The disadvantage being their slowness... They have slow acceleration and a slow high speed, but their visible weight is there to make up for it. They can't cope well when they go off the road, plus they can't hop as high as the lighter characters for obvious reasons. These characters aren't the most advisable characters to use in Time Trials or races, because they take a long time to reach top speed.

DK

Wario
